What You Will Achieve

 

The Andover Pilot Facility process technician will be part of a diverse team of scientists, engineers and technicians focused on media and buffer solution preparation as well as scale up and optimization of mammalian processes to enable the production of toxicology drug substance and process development material in support of Pfizer’s Biotherapeutics portfolio.

 

As part of technical operations, you will be a team member who is relied on to have a good understanding of procedures, techniques, tools, materials and equipment. Your decision making will help you prioritize workflows based on the available resources. You will follow standard procedures to complete tasks, some of which may vary in scope, sequence, complexity and timing. You will contribute to the team’s success by sharing of previously acquired knowledge.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Preparation of large volume buffers and tissue culture media for Pfizer Pilot Manufacturing (200L-500L) requested by science line customers, as described in standard operating procedures.

  • Preparation of small volume for various R&D science lines (less than 200L) requested by science line customers, as described in standard operating procedures.

  • Set up, execution, and evaluation of non-GMP unit operations such as bioreactors, centrifugation, filtration, chromatography, ultrafiltration/diafiltration and final fill. 

  • Additional responsibilities will include executing CIP, SIP, aseptic sampling, parts washing, inventory management, documentation, work order generation, and data entry/evaluation.

 

Qualifications

Must Have

  • HS diploma OR associate degree in biotechnology, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry or equivalent.

  • Requires 2 to 4 years of experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment (bioprocess or chemical process industry).

  • Demonstrated capability to work as a team member in a matrix environment.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and demonstrated ability to interface with automated systems.

  • Dedication to maintaining and operating in a safe work environment.

  • Ability to work independently and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.

  • Understanding of continuous improvement tools (LEAN/Six Sigma, 5S, etc).

  • Must be capable of generating documents utilizing Microsoft Word and Excel.

  

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Works in an indoor laboratory environment where more than 85% of work is accomplished while standing in a laboratory.

  • Walks distances between buildings and up/downstairs.

  • Bending at the knees and waist for a variety of lifting activities.

  • Transports items between floors/buildings weighing up to 500lbs with use of assisted moving equipment (lifts, motorized carts, etc.).

  • Lifts/moves large quantities of raw materials and media powders (up to 90lbs with assisted lifting equipment) and large volume liquid stocks (up to 20L) to prepare large volume solutions.

  • Must be able to perform algebraic mathematical calculations and determine molarity, molality, and percentages. 

  • Autonomously calculates volumes of required solution components based on mathematical calculations.

 

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • This is a Monday through Friday day shift position. 

  • Overtime will be required on a rotational basis to cover weekend Bioreactor sampling and occasional off shift operations.

  • This role will involve use and handling of some hazardous materials and will require use of personal protective equipment and will follow good laboratory practices at all times.

The salary for this position ranges from $28.68 to $47.79 per hour. In addition, this position offers eligibility for overtime, weekend, holiday and other pay premiums depending on the work schedule and the Company’s policies.
